Who we are
multi-pitch.com is a hobby site run by Dan and Michel in the UK (see About). We are responsible for the personal data described here. For anything about your data, email multi-pitch@outlook.com.
The short version
- We don't sell your data, show adverts or ask you to create an account.
- We use Google Analytics to see which pages are used, which sets cookies.
- If you sign up for email updates, Mailchimp holds your email address.
- Everything you log in the training apps stays on your device.
What we collect
How the site is used: Google Analytics
Every page, including the training apps, loads Google Analytics 4. It records the pages you visit
and a few actions on them, along with information such as your browser, device, rough location
(from your IP address) and where you came from. It sets cookies (named _ga) so it
can tell a returning visitor from a new one. In the training apps it also records a few
events, such as connecting a Tindeq Progressor, a Tindeq Arcade score and the max pull it was
played at, but never your session logs. We use this only to understand which parts of the site
people use. Google processes this data, including in the US. You can block it with your browser's
privacy settings, an ad blocker such as
uBlock Origin, or
Google's opt-out add-on.
Email updates: Mailchimp
If you subscribe in the footer, your email address goes to Mailchimp (Intuit), which sends our updates and tells us whether they are opened. We only use it for those emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
When you email us
We keep your email and our reply so we can answer you, and delete them when they are no longer needed.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services (Amazon S3 and CloudFront). Like any web host, they handle your IP address to deliver the pages, and may keep standard technical logs.
What stays on your device
The site uses your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device unless you move it yourself:
- A copy of the climb list and the climbs you open, so pages load quickly.
- Your choices, such as light or dark theme, grade system and filters.
- In the training apps: every session you log, its notes, your settings and saved routines. We never receive these. A backup file is saved to your own device, and only goes where you put it. Clearing your browser's data for the site deletes them.
Other services your browser connects to
- Google Fonts, for the site's fonts. Google sees your IP address.
- OpenStreetMap, for the map tiles on the map page.
- Amazon S3, for the weather and tide forecasts shown on climbs.
- Your browser's speech recognition, in the Climbing Twister app. Listening for "next" is done by your browser, and some browsers (such as Chrome) send the audio to their provider to recognise it. Nothing is sent to us.
- Bluetooth, in the Tindeq Arcade. The app talks to your Progressor directly; the readings stay on your device, apart from the analytics events above.
Links to other sites, such as Instagram, GitHub or UKC, follow those sites' own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. We only hold your email address if you have subscribed or emailed us. You can unsubscribe any time or email us if you prefer. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date at the top.
